Graham Hamilton started the business after having developed a keen
interest in drystone walling over many years and he is still a
member of the West of Scotland branch of the Dry Stone Walling
Association. When he bought the house at Glenelg he decided it
needed some good stone walls so he bought 40 tonnes (two very
large lorry loads) of stone direct from the quarry and spent his
spare time walling.
When the last wall was near completion, he decided to carve a commemorative plaque and inserted this into the wall. This was his first carving.
Graham found that he enjoyed carving and was very much encouraged by people admiring his work. He began to receive commissions and this was the start of Glenelg Stone.
